The monitor is interesting, as it’s a small 3.5″ screen nested into the left hand side of the rear view mirror. The leaves plenty room to always be able to view your mirror at the same time as being able to see your reversing camera when in reverse (if you wire it up that way.).
Peak PKC0RG Camera
The camera picks up acceptable quality video and the wireless transmission seems to be good enough to work on vans and pickup trucks. The biggest issue with the wireless is the interference it picks up in built up city areas, picking up all kinds of wireless signals that you don’t want. For this reason, it’s best to hook up both the camera and monitors power to the reversing light power, meaning the monitor only comes on when in reverse.
Peak PKC0RG Monitor
The monitor is a bit of a mixed bag. Although a good idea in principle, the small size and poor brightness makes it difficult to make out in strong sunlight and the mirror, with a tint, makes it difficult to use at night so it is not idea in either scenario. The camera is easy to install however, such is the advantage of wireless reversing cameras. The monitor is also fairly heavy and if you don’t have quite a stiff rear view mirror, a bump in the road could be enough to move the mirror. There is also a slight delay when switching into reverse before the camera comes on, around 1-2 seconds, which doesn’t sound like much but if you’re in a hurry, it might stop you from using the camera all together.

Common issues
With an entry level product, there is always going to be shortcuts taken. A few issues include:
-
Interference
When in the countryside this isn’t an issue, but in any town centre or city, there is a large amount of interference, picked up as static or competing video signals on the monitor. This can be quite distracting.
-
Heavy Mirror
The weight of the mirror means the slightest bump in a car with weak rear view mirror mount could move the mirror.
-
Interferes with Bluetooth
The frequency this camera operates at interferes with bluetooth connectivity such as hands free car kits and headsets.
-
Water damage on camera
Although advertised as waterproof, there has been a number of reports of water leaking into the camera and breaking it. This has often been outwith the 90 day warranty and a replacement camera must be purchased.
Is the Peak PKC0RG Backup Camera for you?
The one reason to purchase this camera is the wireless feature and it’s comparatively low price. If you must opt for a cheap wireless camera, this is a suitable product, so long as you don’t live in a city.
If you live in a city, then you are much better off getting a wired device that will not pick up so much interference.
