BlackVue DR650GW-2CH Camera and Lens
There are of course 2 cameras in this product, the front camera and rear camera. We will talk about these in sequence. The front facing camera is a high quality, full HD, 1080p camera, capable of recording at 30fps and is powered by a Sony EXMOR CMOS sensor, one of the best sensors used in dash cams. The viewing angle is a slightly disappointing 129 degrees but the quality of the footage captured makes up for it as it’s not distorted by and overly large field of view. The rear camera is capable of 720p (1280×720 pixels) at 30fps. Not quite as clear as the main camera but still more than capable of being used to pick out car license plates, even at night.
BlackVue DR650GW-2CH Hardware
First of all we must compliment BlackVue on the build quality of their camera. Thee DR650GW-2CH really is a fantastically solid and well put together piece of kit. The materials it’s made from feel expensive and I’ve no doubt the larger than normal price is no over inflated. The camera comes with a multitude of features you’d expect from a top of the range camera which we will go through in the features section. Noteworthy inclusions however is a Wi-Fi mode that links this camera with a great many devices. You can download and Android or iOS app that will allow you to manage the camera and view the stored footage within range of the camera. It works seamlessly along with the supplied PC/Mac software bundled with the camera.
BlackVue DR650GW-2CH Software
The bundles software has been developed specifically to view the footage from BlackVue Dash cams. When you place the SD card in you PC, the footage and meta data is picked up and you can see your videos along with G-sensor and GPS data, mapping your location, speed, direction etc.
The software can be quite intimidating to look at as the GUI is a little messy. That doesn’t take away from the great functionality included, leagues ahead of most other dash cam software. There are a few nuances that take a while to work out and get used to but after a using the software a few times, it becomes very intuitive and powerful.
